LYNN TANKERSLEY
Lynn Dale Tankersley Dec 25,1923 ~ Feb 16, 2011 Our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on February 16, 2011, never recovering from a broken hip or the loss of his sweet companion in 2006.Affectionately known as "Tank" from his days in the Navy, he was born on December 25, 1923 in Abilene, Texas to Charles B. Tankersley and Mary Zubie Julian. He was the youngest of six children, C.B. (Myrtle), William Audrey (Catherine), J. Travis (Elsie), Marry Lou, and Jessie Faye (Charles). At the age of two his father died and his mother later remarried Luke Hagood and had one half brother, L.Z. At the age of 17 he joined the navy where he was happy to have three meals a day, warm shelter, and get paid. While in the Navy, he met his sweetheart Elaine Bair. They married on Feb 1, 1947 and had three daughters. He served thirty years in the Navy (20 active duty, 10 reserve) and was honorably discharged July 1961. He settled his family in California and later retired from the State of California. In May 2006 he and Elaine moved to North Salt Lake, Utah. He was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints July 2, 1961 and was sealed to his wife and children on Feb 2, 1965 in the Oakland Temple. He served in many callings and was privileged to serve as Bishop in the Napa California 4th Ward. He is survived by his daughters, Barbara Lynn (Michael Crockett) and Terri Lee (Randall Bell), nine grand children, and 13 great grand children who lovingly call him "Grandpa Tank". He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Elaine Bair and his daughter Janice Gay Tankersley. He showed great love and compassion as he cared for both during their illnesses. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 12 noon with a viewing from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the Chevy Chase LDS Ward, 5235 Wesley Rd, Salt Lake City, UT. A graveside service will take place at the Placer County Cemetery, Lincoln, CA on Friday, February 25, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. The family wishes to express appreciation to the Staff at "Care Source" for their loving and compassionate care shown Dad during his last days.
